FAQs

Can you replace grates on a grill?

If your grill’s grate is rusting, pitted or warped, replacing it becomes necessary. A worn or damaged grate is unsafe to cook on and can affect your food’s flavour.

Replacing it with a new one, improves heat distribution and ease of use.

At Outback, we have a range of replacement grills for a variety of barbecues. Whether you have an older grill or a newer make we have a specialised grill replacement perfect for your cooking set-up.

How often should you replace a barbecue grill?

With proper maintenance your barbecue’s grill could last 5-10 years. But even with the greatest care taken, your grill can wear, rust or become faulty.

If this happens, replacing your grill is crucial to restore your barbecue’s performance.

How do I find the right replacement parts for my BBQ?

To find the right replacement parts, start by identifying your barbecue’s model. This may be on a label at the back of your barbecue, in your owner’s manual, or on the Outback website.

You can then match your model to the correct part. Details on compatible models are included in every replacement part’s description. For guidance on compatibility, expert advice is available.

Do I need to season my new grill grates?

Seasoning your grates prevents them from rusting and food from sticking to them, making them easier to clean.

New steel grates may have a protective shipping wax that needs to be washed off with mild soapy water. Once they’re completely dried, season the grill with a thin layer of cooking or vegetable oil.

How do I make my replacement grates last?

Taking care of your grill grates helps them last longer so you make the most of your barbecue. To keep your grill’s grates in great shape, avoid putting them in the dishwasher or using harsh cleaners.

Instead, scrape off any leftover debris or food with a clean brush. Stainless steel grates can be wiped down with water and a mild dish soap. After cleaning, make sure they’re completely dry. Finally, season them with a light coating of oil to keep them rust free.
