Outback Barbecues plan a bright future ahead

The Grocery Trader – February 2014 issue

New warehousing and offices, a re-vamped website aimed at an expanded Owners Club, and a streamlined logistics operation linked to a consolidated manufacturing base – all matched to a successful product range – feature in a New Year package designed to ensure Outback barbecue brands retain their premium place in the UK market.

Building on their continued success as a market leader since the 2011 agreed takeover by long-standing barbecue suppliers TPA Metals and Machinery (SZ) Ltd, the newly-located Outback International UK Limited plans to increase market share supported by its China-based partners.

“After an in-depth review of our future expansion in the UK barbecue market, in which we have been leading suppliers with the Outback brands for more than 30 years, we decided the time was right to have our own 12,000 sq. ft. warehouse – with additional space for future development – at the established Rotherwas Business Park, Hereford.

“Our new base will provide full facilities to support trade customer services, space to hold stocks of the full Outback range of spare and warranty barbecue parts to meet seasonal demand, and room for future expansion”, said Outback chief executive Mark Osborne.

“In addition, TPA’s new consolidated manufacturing base at the major industrial hub at Dongguan provides an up-to-date link with our logistics partners at Unipart Leisure & Marine”, he said.

Outdoor cooks will be keen to ‘put the kettle on’ during the barbecue season – with the latest Outback Charcoal Kettle Series in black or red. The Kettle’s features include a porcelain-coated roasting hood and firebox; warming rack, chrome foldable cooking grill, ash collector and an exclusive ‘Z-shaped’ trolley design.

A major factor in Outback’s success is providing a wide range of products to meet a varied and changing consumer demand, illustrated this year with the development of the new Meteor Select Stainless Steel 6 Burner gas barbecue.

As good as it gets, this top model has 6 cast iron burners with individual controls and a stainless steel roasting hood, an ultra-fast side sear burner, Piezo ignition, porcelain-coated grill and griddles, lava rock for added smokey meat flavour, and built-in storage cabinets.

For the multi-menu enthusiast demanding the best of both worlds, Outback has developed the newly-designed Combi Select Charcoal/Gas 4 Burner barbecue – a chef’s dream with a choice of two roasting hoods, four cast-iron gas grills, a charcoal grill, a griddle, two warming racks, lava rock, side tables and storage cabinet.

Finally, with the caterer, publican or event-organiser in mind, there’s the new Outback Party 6 Burner Gas barbecue. Ideal for a wide range of social, business or fund-raising events, this easy-store, collapsible and maneuverable barbecue has 6 cast-iron burners, grill and griddle, two foldable side tables, and a hefty 780 x 420mm cooking area complete with electronic ignition.

Counting John Lewis, Homebase and the Garden Centre Group as among its latest prestige trade customers, and with their Excel 300 and Spectrum Select Hooded 3 Burner gas barbecues, and the Omega 200 charcoal barbecue, chosen by consumer watchdog Which? as 2013 ‘Best Buys’, Outback is forecasting a bright future ahead – given the help of a long summer’s sun!
